MarketsandMarkets says that the worldwide datacenter industry segment will be worth $320.89 billion by 2030 as artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies increase the need to handle more data in differentiated ways.

The increase will be stark: The segment will be worth $115.94 billion this year and will enjoy a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 22.6% during the term studied by MarketsandMarkets.

“As organizations increasingly adopt AI, IoT, and 5G technologies, demand for integrated, secure, and high-speed data center services continues to grow, positioning these services as critical enablers of digital transformation and next-generation infrastructure strategies globally,” the report’s press release says.

North America is the largest market for data centers and associated equipment and services. The report covers colocation, managed hosting, cloud integration, and edge computing solutions. In addition, related technologies that serve the segment include network management, cybersecurity solutions, disaster recovery, and compliance support.

Facility services hold the largest market share. Items in this category include power and cooling management, preventive and corrective maintenance, infrastructure monitoring, emergency support, and lifecycle management of physical assets. The goals are to minimize downtime, optimize energy consumption, and comply with regulatory requirements.

It’s clear that the world of datacenters is changing. Indeed, it is growing and decentralizing at the same time. To do so effectively, the report says that the industry is integrating advanced monitoring technology, predictive maintenance tools and digitizing in order to proactively deal with issues before they impact users. These tools “enhance operational visibility and optimize resource allocation.”

The report says that “decommissioning and relocation servers” will experience the fastest growth before 2030. Subgroups within this category include services that systematically dismantle, remove, transport, and reinstall servers, storage systems, networking equipment, and other critical assets. Key goals of these activities are to optimize space and enhance efficiency and upgrade legacy systems without interrupting ongoing business.
